FALLS ILLUMINATION
Currently, a total of 21 Xenon lights are used to illuminate the Falls, each light is 76 centimetres (30 inch) in diameter. Eighteen lights are located at the Illumination Tower, near the Victoria Park Complex and three in the lower gorge, opposite the American Falls.

In 1997, fifteen new fixtures replaced older outdated ones at the Illumination Tower, doubling the intensity of the lights on the Falls without doubling the Hydro bills. Each Xenon spotlight, which illuminates the Falls at night, has a brilliance of 250 million candlepower.

The Falls are illuminated year round as an international project. The Niagara Falls Illumination Board consists of representatives from the City of Niagara Falls, New York, the City of Niagara Falls, Ontario, The Niagara Parks Commission, the Niagara Frontier State Park Authority of New York and Ontario Hydro. This body of five provides the funds needed to illuminate the Falls.
