General Description
Welcome to our newly-renovated and fully-furnished, private cottage. We hope to provide you, our guests, with all the necessary amenities in making your holiday stay a pleasant one.
Upon entering the cottage, you will notice its open concept from the doorway and vestibule. You will first enter the lounge area giving you an immediate cozy feeling. Feel free to glance through the magazines or read some of the books. We also offer some board games to be enjoyed, or you can simply open up the television, and watch a movie. A VCR and DVD are available, along with some movies for the VCR. A movie rental store is close by for additional movies and DVD’s.
Adjacent to the lounge, you will find the dining area, whereby we offer seating for six guests. There is a table to seat 4 – 6 persons, and an additional round bistro is in the same room for a quick breakfast bite or afternoon snack. Across the hallway from the lounge and dining area, you will find a fully-equipped kitchen with a new stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and tea kettle. Dishes, cutlery, cooking pots and utensils are all available for guests to use.
A four-piece bathroom is also located on the main floor, with a linen closet in the hallway. Linens, towels, and a hairdryer are provided. Laundry facilities are located in the town of Virgil, just a 10-minute drive from the cottage. Drycleaning facilities are just in the heart of town, within walking distance.
As you take the stairs to the upper floor, you will find two bedrooms. Each bedroom has a queen-sized bed, a dresser, nightstand, and a closet. A fold-out playpen is available for guests with infants to use. Our cottage accommodates up to six guests (an air mattress is available for main floor use in the lounge area).
Looking to take advantage of the outdoor weather…step out onto the rear deck and enjoy the greenery. Outdoor furniture is available to accommodate dining under the stars with a BBQ. The covered front porch will also provide a wonderful setting for enjoying your morning coffee or tea, and you may even have the pleasure of seeing a horse-drawn carriage trot on by. Complimentary bikes and kids toys are also available to be shared. A great retreat for families, or for a romantic escape! Parking is available for two vehicles on the private driveway.
Whether you’re looking for a weekend getaway or an escape for a week or two, our two-bedroom cottage in the heart of “old town” Niagara-on-the-Lake is sure to help make your stay a pleasant one. Guests can find solitude whether they are inside our private, cottage home, or enjoying its secluded, rear deck and gardens, or relaxing on the front porch.
The cottage is nestled within a lovely neighbourhood. Once you open the front door, you are steps away from Memorial Park, which offers tennis courts, a soccer field, volleyball court, and a public outdoor swimming pool (please contact the Chamber of Commerce for current operating hours). We are only 0.5km from the town center on Queen Street.
The cottage is within walking distance to many wonderful and unique shops, fine dining, art galleries, spas, wineries, and golfing. Otherwise, you may just want to take a walk towards the marina and surrounding waterfronts, and view the beautiful sunsets. If bike riding or rollerblading are an option, the scenic views and waterfront trails along the Niagara Parkway are a must. There are many vineyards, and orchards to pass, but be sure to stop at historic Fort George.
If you are planning a round of golf, then, The Niagara Golf Club is also within walking distance. We are around the corner from the Niagara Historical Society Museum, and if your plans include the ShawFest, we are just minutes away from the Shaw Theatres. With so much to see and do, we hope that you will enjoy your stay at The Secret Retreat Cottage, and all that historic Niagara-on-the-Lake has to offer.

Directions
From Toronto, Ontario (approximately 1 ˝ hours)
Follow the QEW travelling towards Niagara. After crossing the Garden City Skyway at St. Catharines, exit the QEW at exit 38B (Glendale Avenue). Upon the exit, turn right until you arrive at the second stoplight (York Road). Turn left at York Road, and follow the signage that directs you to Hwy. 55/Niagara-on-the-Lake. Turn right on Hwy. 55 (Niagara Stone Road) and drive through the town of Virgil until you reach Mary Street. Turn right on Mary Street and take it to King Street. Turn left on King Street. Turn right on Nelles Street to #37 Nelles Street (on your left-hand side of the road).
From Niagara Falls, Ontario (approximately 30 minutes)
Take the Niagara Parkway into Niagara-on-the-Lake. As you come into town, and arrive at King Street and Queen Street, turn left on King Street. Take King Street up three blocks to Nelles Street. Turn left on Nelles Street to #37 Nelles Street (on your left-hand side of the road).
From New York, Ohio, or Pennsylvania
Via Buffalo (Rainbow Bridge)
Cross the border at the Rainbow Bridge, take the QEW at exit 38B and follow the signage to Highway 55, and then, follow the same directions as given above for those traveling from Toronto (see above).
Via Buffalo (Peace Bridge)
Cross the border at the Peace Bridge, follow the signage to the scenic Niagara Parkway, and follow it from Fort Erie right into Niagara-on-the-Lake. Then, follow the same directions as given above for those traveling from Niagara Falls (see above).
Via Buffalo (Lewiston Bridge)
Take the I-190 North over the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge border to Hwy. 405. On Hwy. 405, take the next exit / Stanley Avenue, and follow the signage to the Niagara Parkway, leading you into Niagara-on-the-Lake. Then, follow the same directions as given above for those traveling from Niagara Falls (see above).
From Detroit
Take Highway 401 and 403 to Hamilton, Ontario, and follow traffic to the QEW towards Niagara. Then, follow the same directions as given above for those traveling from Toronto (see above).
